It's October 1. Only 30 more days until Halloween!
Halloween has always vied with Christmas for my favorite holiday! (What can I say. I'm a woman of extremes.)
And for any fan of the horror genre (of which The Eskimo and I both count ourselves), Halloween is always the perfect time to celebrate the scariest of the scaries. We are asking friends, readers and family to send us their 5 Scariest Movies - with commentary on why they find the movies so scary. We will try to post one list each day during October. (And who knows - we may pick one of yours to review this month too!)
And Geoff Hickman was our first victim (but he volunteered, so it's OK).
Geoff Hickman's 5 Scariest Movies
- Magic - As a kid, my family went to the drive-in a lot. Magic was playing on another screen, not the film we went to watch. Even w/out sound, it scared the shit out of me and might explain my phobia of dolls.
- Event Horizon- The voice they find recorded from the long-gone crew haunts me to this day. Just hearing it makes my hairs stand on end.
- Salem's Lot - Again, as a kid, this would come on once a year on TV. The scene where the dead kid appears outside Danny's window, floating, scratching, and growling "Let me in!" My heart rate just went up :-/
- The Serpent and the Rainbow - Real. live. zombies.
- Jacob's Ladder - Like a horrible nightmare put to screen without escape.

Jacob's Ladder is a GREAT movie! I hadn't thought of it in a long time...but it would be a perfect Halloween watch!
